This is a full day event, featuring guest speakers, workshops and moderated discussions exploring the intricacies of WordPress.

There will be components for all attendees. Each will be tagged "beginner", "intermediate", or "expert" and "blogger", "designer" or "developer". We will also include some sessions on social media integration, as we did last time.

Users of both WordPress.com, and the open source (single or MU) version from WordPress.org are welcome and encouraged to attend!

As details are finalized, they will be updated on the website at WordCampVictoria.ca.

If you are interested in speaking, or leading a workshop or discussion, or know of somebody who would be good, please let us know!

Note: Instead of the informal "Campout" method we tried last time, we will have more formalized, scheduled moderated discussions on various topics, especially the more technical topics.

Howdy Campers! This was my first camp and I'm a happy camper, despite turning up covered in grease from a bicycle mechanical.

Once I got settled in, I enjoyed the presentations and I'm still digesting all the delicious information I collected. The sandwiches and wraps weren't half bad either.

Thank you to all the presenters and organizers. I'll be back!

    Hi everyone,

It was great taking part in the Wordcamp Victoria. You can find photos of the event, the speakers and the lunch panel here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/yyjwordcamp/pool/page2/
For some reason, some of the photos require log-in to be viewed (you can sign in with your Yahoo! id too if you have one), and we're still working on it, so more photos will come this afternoon.

Organizers did a great job! Thank you to everyone who was involved including the sponsors.

Good diversity of presenters/topics to choose from..venue was also a good choice. I enjoyed meeting with so many WP users, fans, developers, writers - live.

Although I had to leave after lunch, even the morning was well worth the reasonable day fee. I really enjoyed the sessions. I think it would be a good idea to adapt and adjust organization of the event as it grows (which it will!) to make sure no one is disappointed. I would love to see the presentation on "must have" blogger plug-ins as well. Overall - a great event and thanks to the organizers, speakers, sponsors and volunteers who made it happen. See you all next year.

    Hey Campers...
WordCamp 2010 was definitely a success. Loved to hear about the innovations of 3.0 and connect with some like minded people. For those that attended my session first thing in the morning, I've uploaded the slide presentation on my site.

    Looking forward to next year!

This was a great event. My favourite talk was Rob Heppell's - As much about marketing as WP but perfect for me at this moment. Other talks by John Overall, Dave Zille, Raul, also excellent. Food was great. Lunchtime blog panel was good. I could have used half-time entertainment or volleyball or any lively non-digital diversion. I'm now inspired to relaunch my former lame blog and turn it into an actual website. Many thanks to Paul, organizers, volunteers. Looking forward to next Wordcamp.

I wonder how many people who attended were in the same boat as me....using WP to build their own website. I managed, from the sessions to pull out enough info to learn. Although I'm woefully inept from a technical/logical standpoint, the speakers in the technical component are still mostly easy to follow, and certainly open to answering questions. Don't let your lack of experience intimidate you!! Go for it~!

Who attended?

  • 131 attendees
    •  Really enjoyed all the talks that I attended. Great information and very inspiring. Coming from a tiny island, it was great to meet up with other people in the business. Looking forward to doing it again.
    •  I'm still a complete neophyte when it comes to WordPress! After attending technical talks at the first #yyjwordcamp, I decided to only attend sessions in the "blogger" stream for #wcyyj10. There was lots of good information from the sessions. Thanks to the presenters for sharing presentation slides too. Some of the best parts of WordCamp (for me) included hanging out in the hallways connecting with people that I only know from online interactions. Hopefully at the next WordCamp there will be more time to do that. How can we get a list of all the bloggers (with their associated blogs) - is this possible? I always appreciate the time and effort that goes into preparing a conference/camp like this. Thanks to the organizing team, volunteers, presenters and attendees for making this a fabulous event. Can't wait for the next one!
    •  Loved it, some of it was over my head, which was the same for all the folks around me but I still loved it. Want one monthly.
    •  Very good, but there is room for improvement in the seating for the sessions...some were overrun. I would have liked to be able to sign up in advance for the sessions I wanted and advance sign-up may have made it possible for organizers to know when the demand would be high enough to repeat a popular session. My friend who was taking notes was unable to get into a session on plugins and I was unable to attend the other plugins session. I would love to be able to access summmaries of those two! (BLOGGER – Rebecca Bollwitt – Plugins Every Blogger Should Use and WORKSHOP – Jeff Richards – 25 Plugins in 50 Minutes). Is it possible? I was impressed by the knowledge, willingness to share and experience level of the speakers and other participants. Lunch was excellent, though I would have enjoyed bottled water or larger cups and a mid-morning snack ... is Tim Horton's up for sponsoring? <grin> Looking forward to next WordCamp!

A lot of useful information and wonderful hostpitality!
    •  Simply the best meetup for anyone who knows about Wordpress. An awesome event, and will definitely be attending again in the next years!

       Fantastic day!
    •  Attendance up at this session from last time. All sessions I attended were excellent. The quality of speakers they are able to attract (both local and out of town) are great.
    •  Although I'm not very knowledgeable about WP from a technical viewpoint, and this is my first time at this kind of meeting, I did not pick up very much about my own technical issues with WP. I probably attended the wrong meetings. Live and learn. I found it difficult to do a lot of networking because I was going from one session right to another session...perhaps a room set up for one hour of 'networking' on specific subjects might work. Another suggestion I would like to see implemented would be handouts from the presenters on their presentation. Key points, etc... The lunch was perfect. The setup format of WORKSHOP, TECHNICAL & BLOGGER, I believe, does not have to be distributed equally, e.g., I prefer work 'workshops'. Maybe a survey could be sent to members about their preferences and the next WORDCAMP could reflect those preferences. Looking forward to the next WORDCAMP. A great Big Thanks to all the organizers and sponsors. Al
    •  I appreciate the knowledge and perspectives of the both presenters and attendees of WordCamp Victoria 2010. I got some valuable tips and met interesting WordPressers. Looking forward to attending similar Meetups in the future.
    •  Would be nice to have longer, more detailed descriptions of the talks, to help make better choices about which to attend. I really appreciated the variety of talks, and the mix of developers, bloggers, designers, etc.

I wasn't sure what to expect, as I didn't attend the last WordCamp - but I was really happy with how it all went. Sort of like a giant tweet-up, I got to put faces to names and build new relationships. The education was great - I took a ton of notes, and am now using Posterous (or shall I say - I'm now fiddling around with it) - thanks Jordan! I've got a list of a billion directories to add my blog to thanks to Paul Holmes' workshop, and feel inspired about the possibilities for my blog thanks to passionate mentors - Mike Vardy, Raincoaster, and Hummingbird604. Thanks to everyone who had a part in organizing WordCamp and making it a success!!
    •  Great presenters, lots of choices, great people to network with, meet for the first time or reconnect! Very glad I went!
    •  The car journey down from Ladysmith with a fellow "WordPresser" generated some exciting conversation as this was both our first WordCamp and we didn't know what to expect. After sitting through some excellent presentations and sharing ideas with like-minded people, the journey home put us both in a new frame of mind. Instead of focusing on the small things that make WordPress so easy to use, we were talking about the possibilities that it offers web designers and developers such as us to offer real solutions to our clients that will help grow their businesses without the need for major overhauls every time and give them the freedom to be in control of their own content and business strategies. I thoroughly recommend a Wordcamp to anyone who wants to learn more about and be inspired by a gold standard CMS platform.

Great event, well organized and attended. Loved the energy and enthusiasm, made it totally worthwhile.
    •  People are so open, so generous with their knowledge. This time there was a workshop component, which was really terrific. All the speakers were great.
    •  well done
    •  I am so glad I joined the camp. So many great workshops in one day! Thanks very much for all who organized and helped this wonderful event.
    •  This was my first experience with WordCamp. I was pleasantly surprised by the level of expertise present, and the calibre of speakers. I will definitely attend any future sessions. Thanks to all the organizers. I walked away with some really valuable information that I will be implementing in my business.
    •  The speakers were very knowledgable and organized. Got a few great tips from other attendees which was worth way more than the fee for the seminar.
